Confession: I am 35 years old and have a Garfield garbage can. I have had this Garfield garbage can since I was about 7 yrs old. I can’t remember how exactly I acquired it, if it was a present or if I saw it in a store and started freaking out, screaming to my mom, “I NEED THAT GARFIELD GARBAGE CAN!!!”, I loved it nonetheless. Since I graduated high school and left home, I have taken it with me everywhere I go. I have moved it with me to Syracuse University (1 dorm room and 3 apartments), to Philly (4 different apartments), to Secaucus, NJ, to Jersey City, and to my current place in Brooklyn. A few years ago, my best friend from high school came to visit, and said to me, “you still have that thing?”. My response – ”FOREVER!!! I will never get rid of it!”. Ok, I am not exactly sure that is what I said, but I am sure it was something along those lines…
The can itself is made out of a metal that I am sure they don’t allow children’s garbage cans to be made like that anymore, but hey, it was the 80′s, anything flew back then! It is so beat up and I cut my leg on it all the time, but I refuse to throw it away.
